If you want to move some serious dirt, this is the tool! While the Travis tool that I bought is a better all around trail tool, this is the one I reach for when it is time to do some bulk shaping and earth moving. Has definitely earned its name “The BOSS”!

Amazing tool for benching and moving HUGE amounts of soil FAST! In loose and soft soils, you’ll be doing an enviable human backhoe impression. Versatile in steep terrain= move lots of dirt, cut through small roots, turn it 45 degrees and break up hard pan/clay, scrape/level tread and has enough surface area and weight to tamp large areas effectively. LOVE THIS TOOL!

Worth the price. It allows you to bench cut as if there were two of you bench cutting with a lesser hoe. A tool of this quality should require its user to pull it out of a magical stone first, to demonstrate that that person is worthy of being the once and future trail boss. After a day of whacking through roots and solid sandstone, its edge looked as sharp as when I started–very good steel, indeed. It also has a nice, ergonomic handle, too, that is not too long and not too short. PS, watch your toes with this one.

I’ve used The Boss for 4 years now on a wildland hand crew as well as trail building. Best hoe I’ve ever used. Better than a rhino IMO. Very durable. It moves an incredible amount of dirt. It also cuts through roots well and holds it edge for a long time. it even cuts well when it’s dull. Due to the width, depth, handle length, and weight, I’d say this hoe increases my work output 40-50℅ over using a standard 4-5″ short handled hazel hoe.
